Se dice que el rey del arma Kamdev fundada Katmandú en el año 723 AD. Si usted va por la leyenda, la zona era un lago en el pasado. Una deidad budista llamado Manjushri le gustaba el lugar y quería morada allí. El dios budista entonces bifurca la colina al sur y permite que el agua fluya hacia fuera.
