Champakulam Bootsrennen

Kerala und seine Zick-Zack-Backwaters sind berühmt für ihre lokalen Bootsrennen, die während der Erntezeit in verschiedenen Teilen des Staates stattfinden. Das Champakulam-Bootsrennen ist das erste Rennen in dieser Saison und hat eine mehr als 500-jährige Tradition. Das jährliche traditionelle Bootsrennen beginnt Ende Juni und Anfang Juli. Dieses Festival wird als "Moolam Vallamkali" anerkannt. Es ist stark mit dem Sree Krishna Tempel in Ambalappuzha verbunden. Das Rennen wird am Moolam-Tag im Malayalam-Monat Midhunam, dem Installationstag der Gottheit im Tempel, durchgeführt.
