Onam ist das beliebteste Festival in Kerala (einem südlichen Küstenstaat Indiens). Dies ist ein hinduistisches Festival, das zehn Tage lang in ganz Kerala mit großer Begeisterung gefeiert wird. Jedes Jahr fällt dieses Fest auf den Malayalam-Monat Chingam - zwischen August und September und auch als Erntefest von Kerala bekannt.
Onam ist eines der ältesten hinduistischen Feste, das immer noch mit großer Hingabe gefeiert wird. Onam markiert die Heimkehr von König Mahabali, einem legendären König, der in der Antike Kerala regierte. Es wurde angenommen, dass diese Zeit das goldene Zeitalter von Karala war. Die Menschen waren glücklich, frei von Schaden und vollkommene Harmonie und Wohlstand waren da.
