Gangaur è uno dei festival più vivaci gioiti con grande entusiasmo e felicità in tutto lo stato indiano del Rajasthan. Nella parola Gangaur, "Gan" è il sinonimo di Lord Shiva mentre "Gaur" sta per Gauri o Dea Parvati. Ma soprattutto, questo festival si tiene in onore della Dea Parvati poiché è considerata l'epitome dell'amore coniugale, della forza, del coraggio, del potere e dell'eccellenza. Durante i festeggiamenti, le donne sposate adorano la Dea Parvati per la lunga vita, il benessere e la ricchezza dei loro mariti mentre le ragazze pregano per avere un compagno di vita intelligente e comprensivo. Il festival si rallegra nel mese di Chaitra, il primo mese del calendario indù e cade tra marzo e aprile, secondo il calendario gregoriano. Inizia il primo giorno del mese di Chaitra, il giorno dopo Holi e viene celebrato per 18 giorni. Inoltre, segna la fine della stagione invernale e l'arrivo della stagione primaverile.
